PICTOPLASTIC

PictoPlastic is an application designed to keep the river banks of Nijmegen clean while at the same time add to the experience of the visitors.

Using this application, visitors can use the garbage bins along the river banks not only to dispose their garbage, but also to play games and obtain real life rewards.

The application does this by mapping out a tour for the user to walk. Each garbage bin functions as a checkpoint that the user can scan which unlocks a game for them to play.

By playing the games the user gains points based on their score in each game. The user can then use these points to buy various real life rewards, such as discount coupons, provided by sponsors.

For this project I worked together with a team of four people. The task our client gave was to create an application that would integrate seamlessly into their campaign 'The Walk of Waste'.

The Walk of Waste was a campaign set up to keep the river banks of Nijmegen clean and motivate visitors to dispose of their garbage properly. For their campaign, the organisation designed different garbage bins.

We, as team, aimed for a solution that would work while at the same time improve the experience of the target audience visiting the river banks. To create this solution we conducted various researches and communicated with all parties associated with the project.

An important part of the project was the co-creation that we conducted with our target audience. They gave us their points of view, opinions and ideas which we incorporated into the product.

Our concept was an innovative application that would gamify the Walk of Waste while educating and motivating the target audience to keep the river banks clean.
